What is my role?

This is the “classic” Big Brother/Big Sister role that comes to mind when thinking about mentorship. One grown up, one young person – matched through careful selection by agency staff – hanging out on weekends or evenings in a flexible way that suits everyone’s schedule.  Couples may also apply to be matched with a young person!

Commitment - Weekly, 1 Year minimum

You’ll meet your little 1-2 times a month for a couple of hours each time. Your match should last a minimum of a year – some end early (people move, lifestyles change, etc), but many last until your Little graduates out of the program at age 18. The majority of Bigs and Littles continue to stay part of one another’s lives long term through adulthood.  Each match is unique, and you’ll grow alongside your Little!

What's expected of the mentor?

The world is your oyster here (with a few caveats, aka no high risk activities, please) and planning your time is up to you and the Little you’re matched with.  Some want structure, others like to go with the flow.  What matters most is consistency!

Consistency is the foundation of trust building.  Your Little should be able to rely on your follow-through for plans. Changes and cancellations do happen though – and that’s okay. Early and clear communication if plans need to change are what’s best for everyone involved.
