What's My Role?
The In-School Mentor is a Big Brother/Big Sister role that takes place within the Little’s school. One big person, one young person – matched through careful selection by agency staff as well as the school staff – to hang out on school property during the school day.
Commitment - 1 hour/week, Sept-June
You will meet with your little every week at the same time and date (ie. Tuesdays at 11am), as it suits your schedule as well as the teacher’s schedule. You will take your Little out of their class for an hour, to hang out in a designated spot within the school grounds (Library, resource room, hallway, playground, etc). You may not leave school property, and must inform the office staff if going to play outside with your Little. At the end of the school year, we will close the match and agency supported contact with your Little comes to an end.
What is expected of the Mentor?
Showing up at a scheduled time once a week for the duration of the school year, with no meetings during school breaks or holidays – with the whole summer off! The In-School matches run from the beginning of the school year and are closed in June. If you’re able to return in the fall, you may be re-matched with your same Little if they’re still a good fit, or you may be matched with a new Little.
